Multi-instrumentalist Nathan Haines is usually known for his trademark tenor and soprano sax work, but for this specially curated performance he takes centre-stage on the vocal mic with the backing of an 8 piece Little Big Band. Recently back from London, where he has been living since 1995, Nathan has won numerous awards in New Zealand and has head-lined several times at London’s legendary Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club.
For his performance with The Little Big Band, Nathan has enlisted veteran arranger Wayne Senior who has written bespoke charts of Nathan’s compositions alongside some lesser known jazz standards and works by American vocal legend Mark Murphy, a singer Nathan has long admired. Joining Nathan on stage will be pianist Kevin Field. Having recently returned from the US and with a brand new album out he is surely one of New Zealand’s finest pianists with a unique modern melodic sense coupled with a sensitivity perfectly suited to backing vocalists. On drums is Ron Samsom who has recorded and toured with Nathan extensively over the last ten years, and on acoustic bass is the fresh new talent of Cameron MacArthur. As a special treat Nathan has included close friend and collaborator Tama Waipara to the concert line-up - expect the unexpected!
