In addition to recording six albums of her own, Wellington singer songwriter Charlotte Yates helmed projects that turned the words of Witi Ihimaera, Hone Tuwhare and James K Baxter into music. Yates has toured extensively throughout New Zealand and Australia and released her sixth album Archipelago in May 2013. It was Yates' first full solo release on Universal Music who have worked with Charlotte over the past 12 years while she has been at the helm of her critically acclaimed compilation albums / concert series. Yates's song writing has been fleshed out by award winning sound designer, audio engineer and producer Gil Eva Craig, who has brought a lush, at times almost eerie, electronic texture and depth to Yates’ songs.
Archipelago is a full studio album with 12 brand new tracks, including the single A Heart to Make with Yates trademark ‘almost edible vocals’ & ‘sophisticated lyrics’ to the fore. Yates and Craig perform songs from Archipelago and earlier albums in a two hour show live and close up with Yates on vocals and acoustic guitar while Craig struts her stuff on tenor horn, acoustic bass and guit-lele for a satisfying, unplugged musical experience.
